Android enthusiasts would normally expect to download the latest version of Rovio’s Angry Birds from the Android Market for obvious reasons. According to a recent post on the official Rovio blog, the company has announced that Angry Birds Rio will be available via Amazon’s Appstore for Android users.

Developed in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox, the title includes the central characters from the upcoming animated feature film ‘Rio’. In this game, the original Angry Birds are abducted and taken to the city of Rio. They eventually escape from the clutches of the captors and proceed to save two of their rare macaw friends named Jewel and Blu.

“The Android platform has seen phenomenal growth, and it’s great that new avenues for app distribution are opening up,” commented Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. “The openness of the Android platform works for the benefit of consumers and developers alike. It has been delightful to team up with Amazon to bring the Angry Birds franchise to this great new application marketplace.”

“Amazon is thrilled to work with a leading developer like Rovio in offering our customers Angry Birds Rio for Android exclusively in the Amazon Appstore,” expressed Aaron Rubenson, category leader for Amazon Appstore. “We think Angry Birds Rio is sure to be an instant customer favorite.”

For the very first time, Angry Birds fanatics owning Android powered mobile phones or tablets will be able to download ad-free versions of Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons through the Amazon Appstore. This title will feature 60 new dedicated levels, with more content to come via app updates.

Details regarding the game’s exact release date are sketchy as of as now.
