Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie rumored to strike in October

We agree that we were expecting Google to unveil the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie OS at the I/O last month, but that clearly didn’t happen. Google also steered clear from mentioning anything about the version 4.3 of its celebrated platform at the expo. However, buzz around the town currently hints towards a possibility that the search engine leader is contemplating an official launch for KLP in October.

The fifth generation platform is doing nothing, but building up the anticipation amongst loyalists. According to Gadgetronica, the reason for its delay is to let manufacturers catch up with the existing editions of the OS in the market, implied a post on VR-Zone. This makes sense considering that Ice Cream Sandwich still reigns in some smartphones, while the former Jelly Bean version has its grasp over ample devices already. The latest iteration of the platform can also be seen visiting more and more handsets with each passing day.

The folks from VR-Zone have also remarked that Android Key Lime Pie will not just be destined for top notch smartphones, but will also seek to be optimized for devices fitted with at least 512MB of RAM. If this tidbit turns out to be true, it should give low-end handset manufacturers something to rejoice about.

Even before the company could spill out any details concerning the purported OS, certain smartphones have begun penetrating the rumor list, claiming to be driven by version 5.0 of the platform. Let’s take the HTC T6 for instance, which had been in the news for being the enlarged brother of the One and speculated to rock KLP out of the box.

The Mountain View guys have a history of declaring new system software along with devices hailing from their very own portfolio, and rumor has it that LG may be crafting yet another smartphone for the conglomerate, apparently the fifth generation Nexus phone. If the grapevine is to be believed, this gadget may also break new grounds in the fourth quarter.

It will take trudging the path for four months before October turns up, which makes it that much longer to find an answer to this question. But whenever that happens, rest assured we’ll be here with more information.
