American Airlines flies in with mobile Wi-Fi Widget

Previously, we had reported about the American Airlines App landing on to the iPhone platform. It appears as if the company is all set to go mobile since it has now announced its newest customer convenience tool, dubbed the mobile Wi-Fi Widget.

With this new tool, users can locate Wi-Fi equipped aircraft within 24 hours of their flights’ departure. This widget can now be used on any internet-enabled mobile device. In order to check Wi-Fi availability, all they have to do is visit aa.com/wifiwidget from their mobile web browser. On launching this site, fliers will have to enter their flight number or choose the departure airport from the drop down menu.

“We know our customers are mobile by definition, and having information they want and need on the go can simplify and enhance the travel experience for them,” stated Rob Friedman, Vice President – Marketing. “The Wi-Fi Widget has been a customer favorite since it launched on AA.com, and now we’re excited to see this functionality more accessible to our customers wherever they are in their travel experience.”

Wi-Fi can be accessed on American flights in the continental United States. It can also be availed on all Boeing 767-200 airplanes along with some MD80 and 737 aircrafts. Users can make car reservations or hotel, book additional flights, check their AAdvantage accounts and much more on Wi-Fi equipped flights. All this can be done with the help of complimentary inflight access to AA.com.

The Wi-Fi widget can be accessed from aa.com/wifiwidget through the user’s mobile web browser. Moreover, users can also avail of complete internet access for $4.95 per Gogo Inflight Internet session.
