AmazonBasics consumer electronics range arrives in India

The AmazonBasics line of consumer electronics has been launched in India, offering a range of accessories stamped with the brand name. The initiative has been around internationally for a long time now, having been started in the US back in 2009.

AmazonBasics is currently showcasing a small selection of less than 50 products as of now. The lineup includes data cables compatible with Android devices, adapters, audio-video wires and Apple-certified lightning cables. The company is planning to expand the range of products offered in the future.

In a statement, Amazon said it is in the process of adding new products that better reflect its international offerings. This could signal the arrival of home and digital accessories like speakers, laptop backpacks, power banks and headphones. All of these are currently being offered in the US page of the e-commerce site.

The basic premise of AmazonBasics is to sell high-quality products at affordable prices. All the accessories vended will come with a one-year warranty and are eligible for one-day deliveries. Like with other items available on the website, consumers can see what other people have bought.

While it’s not clear if Amazon is actually manufacturing these devices or just putting their name on a product, it’s still an efficient way of driving its own business and profits. The brand could offer heavy discounts since it’s entirely in charge of sales, benefiting both the consumer and itself.

AmazonBasics will probably give steep competition to other companies who make digital accessories, especially after expanding its product portfolio. The e-commerce giant recently tied up with Surpluss to sell refurbished phones on its website, offering professionally restored handsets at cost-effective rates.
