Airtel Open Network platform to show network coverage quality across India

Bharti Airtel has officially announced a new platform dubbed Open Network to allow consumers to keep a track of the brand’s network coverage. The interactive online tool can be accessed via its website and the myAirtel app.

To recall, Airtel had previously launched a similar microsite under its Project Leap initiative a few months ago. The new Open Network platform seems to be an extension of that with a similar map layout and features. As per a press release issued by the brand, the fresh approach will let customers get an idea if the network in their area is excellent, good, moderate or non-existent.

They’ll also be able to see the status of towers in their area. These sites are divided into existing, required, being upgraded or forcibly shut down. If a user faces a issue and wishes to report it, they can drop a pin on the problem area in the map and fill up a form. They can alternatively call the Airtel Call Center or visit any of the telecom operator’s stores.

Both have apparently been equipped with special solutions based on the new interface to deal with any coverage issues. For patrons who favor a more hands-on approach to the problem, Airtel has even requested help to set up towers, especially in places where its sites have been taken down.

Airtel had previously stated that it was planning to reduce its call drop rate to 1.5%, lower than the 2% minimum mandated by TRAI. The new Open Network initiative should help keep track of that promise, with the brand even stating that it’s been created to improve an individual’s network experience.
