Airtel offers 246GB data with new Rs 558 prepaid plan

Airtel offers various plans for its consumers in a bid to keep up with rival Reliance Jio. The latest one is priced at Rs 558 and falls under the prepaid category.

Airtel Offers

In exchange of Rs 558, Airtel customers will get 3GB of 3G/4G data on a daily basis. That’s in addition to unlimited local, roaming, and STD calls. 100 local and national SMSes are on the docket as well. The plan lasts for a hefty 82 days. Crunching some numbers, this equals to a total of 246GB of data in all.

That’s quite a lot of data on hand. In comparison, Reliance Jio has its own Rs 509 pack which gives away tons of data. The scheme delivers 4GB of data every day for 28 days. This adds up to 112GB of data across the entire validity period. This is less as compared to what Airtel offers, but the rate is lower.

However, Airtel’s deal sticks around for nearly triple the time Jio’s scheme does. The latter telecom company is further promising unlimited local, STD and roaming calls, free access to Jio apps, and 100 free SMSes.

Airtel offers new unlimited data deal

Reliance subscribers who manage to exhaust their daily limit of 4GB of data a day can still go online. However, their speed will be limited to 64kbps. Even Airtel has begun pledging something similar to its own users. Up until now, the company made customers pay for extra data if they finished their daily ceiling.

Telecom Talk reports that Airtel will now allow customers to access data even after their limit gets crossed. The catch here is that speeds are reduced to 128Kbps. This is very slow for people used to 4G speeds, but it’s still better than no data.

With this change, Airtel, Reliance Jio, and BSNL all provide truly unlimited prepaid packs. Vodafone and Idea have yet to adopt the same policy.
