Airtel joins hands with Symantec

Airtel has tied up with Symantec to supply cyber-security solutions to businesses across India, targeting large as well as small and medium businesses. The pair is even planning to offer its services to central and state governments.

Airtel and Symantec seem like an odd pairing at first, but the team-up makes sense when considering what each brings to the table. The former will take advantage of its business to business reach which currently counts 2000 big enterprise accounts and 2.5 lakh corporate and tech start ups amongst its portfolio.

Meanwhile, Symantec will be peddling its Integrated Cyber Defense Platform for enterprises. The company’s CEO Greg Clark pointed out that the world is seeing an unprecedented level of cyber attacks, making this an ideal time to launch its alliance with Airtel. He believes the partnership will benefit from a rising tide of crime and bring in decades of constant recurring revenues.

Airtel has actually been Symantec’s customer till date, so there is history there. PTI’s report bears no mention of non-business users who might want to purchase the latter’s security solutions. The former may have nothing to do with that side of the coin since it appears to be the exclusive vendor only for businesses.

Clark claims that Symantec’s managed to block over a billion Petya and Wannacry infection attempts since the two came to light. With the rise of cloud computing in India, it’ll be critical for firms to obtain security technologies which are built for the new environment.
