Election gift of free data from Airtel to voters in Delhi, NCR, Kerala, Haryana

It’s election fever in India and contributing to this is Airtel which put its offer of free data to voters in Haryana, Kerala, Delhi and NCR up for grabs to subscribers. You’d think that with 200 million customers and counting, the telecom operator has enough visibility already and doesn’t need to push for publicity.

But we’re not complaining because encouraging people to do their duty as citizens is always a good thing. After all, how the country’s economy shapes out in the near future is dependent on us voting responsibly for a promising government. Airtel made the announcement about giving away free data through Twitter and Facebook.

The company tweeted ‘Come, be a part of the social wave of change with airtel and get 50MB of free data on Election Day!’ through its Twitter account and posted a Facebook picture with the words ‘Your vote is your fundamental right, exercise it!’ sprawled across it.

People in the areas mentioned above were required to dial *125*666# in order to see the data credited to their account. The offer was open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on April 9. While the network provider hasn’t said that similar deals will be forthcoming for other regions in India, you can hope it will declare the same when your constituency goes to the polls.

Meanwhile, free Airtel data package or not, we assume you’ll be casting your vote if you’re 18 years and above.
