Airtel announces Rs 199 plan to counter Jio

Airtel has come up with a brand new plan to counter Jio, this time targeting its rival’s cheapest Rs 149 plan. The former is now promoting a Rs 199 scheme that offers similar benefits.

It’s not clear whether Airtel’s plan is available to all or a few select customers. For those who can access it, the deal involves paying up Rs 199 in exchange for 1GB of 4G/3G/2G data and unlimited local and STD calls for a total of 28 days.

On the other hand, Reliance Jio’s Rs 149 plan serves up 2GB of data, unlimited voice calls, and 300 messages for 28 days. Airtel’s scheme doesn’t include any free SMSes and its calling is restricted to 300 minutes per day and 1200 minutes per week.

Airtel Data

Airtel also has a Rs 178 pack in place offering the same benefits, but that’s limited to new customers on their first and second recharge. For those looking for more data, the telecom operator also has a Rs 399 plan for prepaid users in place. It offers 1GB of data per day for 84 days, translating to 84GB of data in total.

Subscribers will also get access to unlimited local and STD calls. Again, this is restricted to 1000 minutes per week, so it’s not quite as limitless as Airtel makes it out to be. The brand has been busy over the past few months, announcing its VoLTE plans and secretly working on a low-cost Rs 2000/2500 Andriod phone to go up against the JioPhone.
