Aircel to set up 13000 mobile sites by December 2015

Aircel is planning to roll out 13000 mobile sites, comprised of 2G, 3G and 4G networks, all over India by December 2015. The telecom operator has already set up almost 7400 sites as part of its plan.

Aircel has a pan-India 2G presence currently. Its 3G network operates in 13 circles, while its Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) or 4G is present in 8 for enterprise customers. In a statement, the company said the expansion is in line with the rising demand for mobile connectivity among the masses. It will ensure the brand provides fast internet speeds and uninterrupted services.

To recall, the government had earlier asked all telecom providers to enhance their network infrastructure in order to tackle the call drop menace plaguing the country for the past year. With this new scheme, Aircel will be adding over 2.2 million hours per day in its voice capabilities and nearly 200TB per day of data capacity.

The company has asserted that it continually updates and optimizes its existing spectrum to gain higher efficiency and ease the load it faces. According to Aircel Chief Technology Officer Sameer Dave, of the 13000 sites which are being set up, 5300 will support 2G and 7700 are a combination of 3G and 4G.

The 2G expansion is aimed at improving the network performance in states like Bihar, Rajasthan and Delhi. The 3G growth is focused on areas such as Tamil Nadu, Chennai, West Bengal, Odisha and Kolkata. There’s no word yet on where its 4G plans are going to be introduced in.

With the commercial launch of its LTE services in December, Aircel will be taking on the likes of Reliance Jio and Vodafone. The two providers are also planning to launch their 4G network in the same month.
