The Windows Phone 8 had been revealed in all its high spirits at the Windows Phone Developer Summit that was held yesterday. A range of features is included in the new software that’s said to be along the lines of Windows 8 for tablets and PCs.

Firstly, the fresh mobile OS brings with it multi-processor support, which means that dual-core chipsets could be seen in future devices. Microsoft has also extended the resolution support for Windows Phone 8 handsets, which are expected to proffer 1280 × 768p or 1280 × 720p screen resolutions. This should deliver a sharp visual experience on the units to be made with the new OS onboard.

NFC capability will come knocking for devices on the Microsoft mobile platform. This should make transferring stuff between 2 compatible phones a breeze. All forms of content like images, documents and contact details can be shared by tapping 2 NFC-compatible handsets together. Internet Explorer 10 will be seen in the mobile OS just like the PC versions, bringing in improved features like SmartScreen Filter for blocking spam and more.

The Wallet utility serves as a hub for credit cards, coupons, passes and other such tickets. Those tying up with a reliable carrier can pay money for different services via compatible counters. The built-in maps now include Nokia-powered mapping, which provides detailed turn-by-turn directions for transit. Besides, it renders the ability to scroll through maps in the absence of the internet by saving them in the offline mode.

A fresh buffet of apps and games has been included in the software, apart from major tweaks to the interface elements. The new OS is business-ready as well with features like remote management, Company Hub and more. Phones sipping on v7.5 of the OS will not receive an upgrade to the fresh platform, reveals Redmond on the official Windows Phone blog. Nevertheless, the new-fangled OS Start Screen dubbed Windows Phone 7.8 will be rolled out to the smartphones running the previous OS.

The exact Windows Phone 8 release date has not received a mention as of now.
