2011 Sony Xperia smartphones get ICS upgrade

The 2011 Sony Xperia range can now feast on ICS as the software update has been rolled out just recently. The lucky ones include the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray, as revealed by the company.

The aforesaid handsets’ OS will be upgraded for Sweden, Iceland, Norway and Denmark initially. The Android 4.0 treat will be provided to other regions in the days to come. To get started, owners of these phones need to check out the company support community page for the availability of the software kit. In case it is not present on the site, users still need to keep tabs as it will be updated as soon as new kits come in.

“In order to upgrade your 2011 Xperia smartphone you will need to connect to a PC or Mac – please visit http://www.sonymobile.com/update and follow the instructions. Following on, Xperia arc, Xperia Play, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will receive their scoop starting from the end of May/early June,” states a post on the official Sony Xperia Product blog.

The treat arrives specifically for handsets launched last year, most of which operate on Gingerbread. Since ICS is Google’s latest spin on their mobile OS, it just makes sense for Android users to be rooting for upgrades. Moreover, this news has come just in time considering that it was on the schedule already.
