Vodafone kickstarts 4G services in Kochi

Vodafone has launched its 4G service in India, choosing to debut the high-speed network in Kochi before it moves on to Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata during its 1st phase of operations. The telecom player’s LTE connectivity will be competing with brands such as Airtel and Reliance Jio.

Vodafone will commence its 4G rollout in Kochi from December 14. Existing users of the company will get a free promotion to 4G in addition to a 4G SIM card. Packs start at Rs 29 for 120MB of data and go up to a bonanza deal of 20GB at Rs 2499. 4G RED customers get 100% extra data for 3 months.

Consumers will further have access to unlimited music streaming via Vodafone Music. The brand has also partnered with Hungama Play to provide a free limitless movie subscription offer for a period of 3 months. It also unveiled a 4G mobile Wi-Fi hotspot device that is capable of supporting up to 10 gadgets.

In a press statement, Vodafone India’s Kerala business head Abhijit Kishore said the state is an important growth market for the operator. The data revenue obtained from the region is growing at a rate of 75% annually, which he claims is above the national average. Kishore also clarified that the company’s 4G services will expand to Trivandrum and Kozhikode soon.

Vodafone has spent the last 18 months investing Rs 700 crore into Kerala for the purpose of network expansion and modernization of equipment. The service provider has teamed up with leading global technology companies for its 4G launch across the country. To recall, it 1st started trials of the LTE network back in July this year.
