Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5 update starts rolling out in India

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 have begun receiving an update in India, the 2nd one the handsets have gotten since their launch. The new upgrade is roughly 100MB in size and seems to be rolling out gradually.

Users of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 will have to download the file manually as the phones aren’t automatically displaying notifications for it. To do so, they’ll have to head over to Settings, select About device and choose Software update. The build numbers of the firmware are G928IDVU2AOK8 and N920GUBU2AOK3, respectively.

Samsung Software Update

The changelog says the Samsung phones will be equipped with improved security features and battery usage optimization. The latter was spotted in the 1st update the handsets had received last month. The tool halts background app refreshing in order to save up on power. Other upgrades include more stable calls and the general Android security patch for November.

Samsung warns consumers to back up their Galaxy devices before installing the upgrade. While it promises to preserve content post the process, it cautions that any interruptions such as accidental removal of the battery could result in the smartphones not working normally. The company also mentions that the handsets cannot be used at all during the installation process.

Furthermore, the icons on the home screen and phone settings may go back to default and have to be reconfigured after the process is over. SamMobile notes that the upgrade also brings back the optical character recognition (OCR) option back to the Galaxy Note 5. The function is a part of the device’s Smart Select feature, but was nowhere to be seen in the earlier update.

OCR enables better identification of letters and numbers. Additionally, the brand seems to have solved a bug which caused the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 to lag when unlocking the display.
