According to a report by research firm Gartner, worldwide mobile phone shipments during the third quarter of 2015 have grown to stand at 478 million units. It placed India-based Micromax within the top 10 handset makers across the globe.

Overall sales have increased by 3.7% internationally when compared to the same July – September quarter in 2014. Micromax has done very well for itself, its vending leaping to 12.16 million units in 2015, nearly double the figure of 5.6 million it boasted of last year. The increase in its shipments has bagged it the 10th spot in the worldwide mobile phone sales list.

The top position is occupied by Samsung with 102 million models sold, registering a rise of 9% year-on-year. It was followed by Apple, which traded 46 million handsets with a growth rate of 20.6% compared to its performance in 2014. The company dominated the premium smartphone segment during Q3 2015. Microsoft took up the 3rd rank through the sale of 30.29 million of its devices.

However, Microsoft’s sales have decreased by 30% when weighed against its vending in 2014. The rest of the top 10 rankings list was occupied by Huawei, LG Electronics, Lenovo, Xiaomi, TCL Communications and ZTE. The rising accessibility of affordable handsets in developing markets has resulted in an increasing number of users upgrading from their feature phones to a smartphone.
