4G device shipments in India reached its peak at 2.2 million during the January-March quarter

While 4G networks are yet to light up across the majority of states in India, there is no shortage of compatible gadgets in the market and this is evident by new data which suggests that a total of 2.2 million devices have been shipped in to the country. What’s more, this figure has been derived after only taking into account the shipments during the first quarter of 2015.

And to no one’s surprise, Samsung is the leading OEM in the 4G as it managed to achieve the top spot on the list by bringing the most number of LTE devices into the country. Previously, Apple was the one to carry this title. A report from CyberMedia Research says that out of the total 2.2 million 4G devices shipped, 97% were LTE enabled handsets and 2.6% comprises of 4G data cards.

The remaining was made up of 4G tablets. Out of the 97% total, Samsung smartphones peaked at 27% with Xiaomi coming in at second place with a 17% share. Obviously, Apple has been pushed down to the third position with just 15%. The South Korean company’s reign over the LTE market is mainly owing to new handsets such as the Galaxy A5, Galaxy A6 and Galaxy S6 series.

A total of 55 different handsets were shipped during the period of this report and Lenovo had the most number of units. The first quarter of the year also seen new OEMs such as Huawei, Blackberry and ZTE join LTE race in India. It’s obvious from this report that major players are dominating the 4G market in India and that’s mainly because the local competition hasn’t delivered much in this segment as yet.

CRM says that the 2.2 million of total 4G device shipments is double than what the previous quarter witnessed and this trend will continue in the coming quarters as well.
