Motorola Moto E (Gen 1) starts getting Android 5.1 Lollipop treat in India

The first-gen version of the Motorola Moto E smartphone has now started receiving a new Android 5.1 Lollipop build that owners can grab in the form of an OTA download. If you haven’t received the update notification yet, do head into Settings > About phone > Software Update in order to manually search for it.

The old Moto E from Motorola was first released in India back in May last year. It had created quite a storm then, owing to its low price and the fact that it ran the Android 4.4 KitKat OS which was quite uncommon for such low-cost handsets at that time. It now has a successor which sports improved hardware, and was only recently blessed with the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS as well.

The size of the update for the first-gen device is 210MB, and is recommended to be downloaded over Wi-Fi only. The Moto E is a dual SIM smartphone that’s being sold right now exclusively via Flipkart at just Rs 4999. It bears on it a 4.3-inch qHD display and runs on a 1.2GHz dual core Snapdragon 200 processor.

Here’s a neat look at the specs of the old Moto E:

– Display: 4.3-inch, qHD resolution
– OS: Android 5.1 Lollipop
– Processor: 1.2GHz dual core Snapdragon 200
– Camera: 5MP rear
– Storage: 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage (expandable up to 32GB)
– Battery: 1980mAh

There’s 1GB worth of RAM onboard as well, apart from 4GB of storage space which can be expanded further up to 32GB. A 5MP fixed focus camera sits on its rear surface, but there’s no front facing shooter onboard this Motorola gadget.
