Almost a month after Android Lollipop was released for the HTC Desire 816 smartphone, the updat has finally reached India and is seeding to all devices over the air. The new OS is version 5.0 and there’s no word on whether the device will be seeing the next big release which has already hit Nexus devices.
There are multiple versions of the HTC Desire 816 in India. The first one is the original phone that was launched back in 2014 and the second being the 816G which is available in two models, one with a quad core MediaTek processor and the other have an octa core SOC from the same chip maker. It’s the first option that’s being treated to Lollipop and we don’t know when or even if the others will be bumped to the new OS.
The original version of the HTC phone ships with Android KitKat and the Sense 5.5 UI. The new update tags along a fresh interface, but it doesn’t offer the latest Sense 7 UX. As per the changelog, the software version is 2.34.720.1 and the firmware weighs in at 862.8MB. Along with bug fixes and enhancements, it introduces a new lockscreen and notifications UI as well as the latest recent apps layout.

So basically, it doesn’t look like HTC has thrown anything special into the new OS for the Desire 816. The phone is a mid-range option and amongst the first to offer the BoomSound speakers which were limited to the flagship series.
