BlackBerry Leap is a new mid-range device that’s quite expensive at Rs 21490

If you thought that the processor on the BlackBerry Leap was a big letdown, you’re going to be more disappointed knowing that you may have to shell out as much as Rs 21490 to purchase the new device. That’s a lot more compared to the Rs 17000 price we anticipated after conversion of its US retail tag.

The BlackBerry Leap smartphone is the first device from the company for 2015 and it’s also the successor to the Z3 handset. The phone isn’t all that big of an upgrade from its 2014 sibling, but it does have greatly improved software which is the company’s strong point.

That being said, hardware really is what BlackBerry is focusing on lately and the new release is quite evident of this. The phone is a mid-range release, but its hardware really doesn’t do justice to the aforementioned tag.

While the same amount of cash will land you high-end devices like the Mi 4, OnePlus One and ZenFone 2, the Leap will have you settle for a measly 1.5GHz dual core processor from the old Snapdragon lineup, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 2800mAh battery which is the most attractive component. Also, the phone supports 4G LTE, but it will most likely not work with currently deployed networks.

BlackBerry Leap specs roundup:

– BB10.3.1 OS
– 5-inch 720p HD IPS LCD
– 2GB RAM
– 16GB internal storage, 128GB expandable
– 2MP front camera, 8MP rear snapper
– 2800mAh battery
– 4G LTE, HSPA+
– 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor

The aforementioned retail tag for the BlackBerry Leap could change considering that the company hasn’t officially revealed how much the phone will sell for. We’ll only know for sure when the handset goes on sale this week, but NDTV Gadgets says that it learned of this amount from its sources.
