OnePlus finally puts an end to legal wars with Micromax over Cyanogen OS, clarifies its stance

The OnePlus One was launched in India back in December, but Micromax made things tough for the Chinese startup by taking legal action. This was mainly caused due to the latter having exclusive rights to Cyanogen OS in the country, which comes preloaded with the handset in question. Owing to this, the software company wasn’t able to provide updates to the smartphone over the air.

Well, both sides have resolved their issues and all OnePlus One units in India will be eligible to receive OTA releases straight from Cyanogen. In a blog post, the Chinese company revealed that legal proceedings have been resolved with the cases being withdrawn through mutual consent.

OnePlus says, “OnePlus remains vindicated of the recent trials and tribulations that has surrounded the company due to legal tussle with Micromax over exclusivity on CyanogenOS. We are happy to confirm that all ‘OnePlus One’ users in India will continue to receive OTA updates from Cyanogen in-line with our users in markets around of the world.”

This is certainly great news for Indian OnePlus customers, but the downside to the entire event is that the Chinese company and Cyanogen have cut all ties and might not work together again. The custom Android OS on the One handset combined with its great hardware is what made the phone a great pick and it’s still a recommended purchase even today.
