BlackBerry Leap outed in India with outdated specs

The BlackBerry Leap which is the successor to the popular Z3 smartphone which was launched last year has debuted in India. The company notes that the phone will start hitting stores from next week onwards.

The BlackBerry Leap made its global premiere back in March and its arrival in India has been anticipated since then. Unlike most of its siblings, this phone doesn’t have a physical keyboard, but an all-touch form factor. It offers mid-range features and comes with the latest BlackBerry 10.3.1 OS pre-installed.

Owing to this, you’ll have access to the latest goodies including Android app support through the Amazon Appstore, BlackBerry Assistant which is basically competition to Siri, Cortana and Google Now, BlackBerry Blend and a lot more. However, the outdated hardware will limit you from running any demanding games or applications.

The Leap handset looks a lot similar to its predecessor and not much has been changed on the inside either. A 5-inch display is placed on the front and it offers visuals at 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. There’s also a 2MP camera here, while the rear has an 8MP snapper with an LED flash. The biggest disappointment here is the processor which is the old 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 Plus SOC.

Memory provisions, on the other hand, are what you’d expect – 16GB of internal flash storage, 2GB RAM and a microSD card slot which supports up to 128GB. The main highlight of this BlackBerry phone is that it has 4G LTE and a large 2800mAh battery.

BlackBerry Leap specifications:

– BB10.3.1 OS
– 5-inch 720p HD IPS LCD
– 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm MSM8960 processor
– 2GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage
– 2MP front camera, 8MP rear snapper
– 2800mAh battery
– 4G LTE, HSPA+

The price for BlackBerry Leap in India has been set at Rs 21490. The company sells the phone in the U.S for $275.
