Xiaomi’s Rs 4000 handset seen in leaked image with Redmi 2-like design

A rumor gaining steam right now is that Xiaomi will be releasing a new smartphone with a price tag as low as somewhere around the Rs 4000 mark. An image which is being claimed to be of the said handset has reached the Internet, perhaps giving us our first glimpse at the upcoming offering.

Spotted by MyDrivers, this picture was posted on Weibo recently, and is claimed to be of a Xiaomi smartphone that will cost CNY 399 in China which brings its approximate retail value to $65 or Rs 4000. The company is rumored to have been working on a sub-Rs 5000 device since long, however, its global VP Hugo Barra had said in December that such a handset is not possible due to unsuitable industry conditions.

Xiaomi Rs 4000 Phone

But those conditions have seemingly changed now if the Xiaomi device we’re looking at is indeed the Rs 4000 offering which fans are waiting for. Past reports have told us that despite its low asking amount, this Redmi 2-like phone will still feature LTE support which is unheard of in its price bracket.

Additionally, there are rumors that the manufacturer will be going for a Leadcore chipset instead of a MediaTek one, most probably owing to the ban imposed on its select smartphones in India. The SoC on this Xiaomi phone will be the Leadcore LC1860 model which will bear a 28nm fabrication processor and utilize 2GHz Cortex-A7 cores alongside a Mali T628 GPU. 1GB of RAM and an HD display of unknown size will also form part of this handset apparently.

These are the only details available right now about the purported Rs 4000 Xiaomi smartphone. We’ll have more on it once additional information is out.
