Xiaomi Redmi 2’s India launch may be slated for March 12

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 smartphone’s arrival in India is being highly anticipated since its launch back in January and there’s a good chance that the device will make its debut on March 12. The company is running a contest on social media which offers priority passes to a new Mi product.

There’s no word on what the fresh hardware is, but there are subtle hits of it being the Xiaomi Redmi 2. A word puzzle has been posted as a teaser and it reads out the words quick charge, wide-angle, Snapdragon and expandable amongst others, which describe the handset in question. The Mi India Facebook account notes that the contest will end on March 11 which leads us to believe that the new device will go official the following day.

Xiaomi also has other new devices like the Mi Note and the recently launched Redmi Note 4G dual SIM. However, it’s highly unlikely that these will be revealed in India anytime soon. The successor to the 1S looks pretty much the same as its predecessor, but offers a slimmer and lighter design.
