Viber gaming service starts rolling out to users from all over the globe

Viber, the web-based instant messaging and VoIP service, has just announced that it has opened up access to its gaming feature to users from all over the world. This part of the app was only limited to five countries prior to this, as it was launched merely as a pilot project.

Only a total of three games fall under its purview right now, but that number is all set to grow in the future, as the project continues to grow in scope. Viber games are actually standalone titles which need to be downloaded separately.

However, a private application programming interface (API) lets them get integrated with the Viber accounts of users. This way, they can compete with their friends, share scores and more. According to TechCrunch, the makers of the messaging app are hoping that these games will generate more income by means of in-app purchases.

At the moment, Viber Candy Mania, Wild Luck Casino and Viber Pop are three games that can be played through the service. Belarus, Malaysia, Israel, Singapore and Ukraine were the only five nations which were able to take advantage of it until now.

Around a year ago, Viber was bought Rakuten for the huge sum of $900 million, and one would think that the sense of independence this gave to the company is helping it try out new methods of revenue generation. The popular application can currently boast of a whopping 236 million strong active monthly user base.

You’ll be able to see the Viber games in the app itself, and that’s where you’ll find the links that will take you to the Google Play store to download them.
