India’s Facebook mobile user-base will be larger than those in US by 2017

India’s ever-growing population of mobile Internet users means more of its citizens will be accessing Facebook from their tablets or handsets as compared to those living in the US by 2017. At least, that’s what eMarketer seems to think according to its latest report on the subject.

It’s not surprising considering that it’s easier to get the Internet to the masses over mobile connections seeing as India is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world. The same cannot be said for the country’s appetite for desktops or laptops.

Going by another report, a 36 percent increase in spending over data was observed in the nation from 2013 to 2014. So people are indeed engaging more and more in mobile web services. What’s more, Internet-based apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Skype and Line are more popular than ever before.

Facebook already has its second biggest audience in India. As a TOI report which refers to a PTI post says, the social network’s largest user base which resides in the US, will be challenged in terms of size by 2017. Almost 1 billion people across the globe may access the website on mobile at least once a month in 2015.

In this year itself, Indians are expected to account for more than 100 million Facebook members signing into the portal on the go. The mobile user bases in the US and India in 2015 are anticipated to reach 123.1 million and 101.5 million, respectively. By 2017, the latter may boast of housing 145.9 million of these.

As it stands currently, Facebook has 1.35 billion members worldwide, out of which 864 million are stated to be daily active users. 112 million fans reside in India and 99 million of them access the social network on their mobile device at least once each month. The daily active count is said to be 45 million here.
