Xolo One smartphone starts getting promised Android 5.0 Lollipop update

As promised, the Xolo One smartphone which was launched to counter Google’s Android One initiative has been treated to the latest Lollipop OS. What’s more, the budget-minded handsets backed by the search giant are yet to see the new platform roll out.

This certainly is a huge blow to Google who promised quick updates for the Android One program. The Xolo One has started receiving the new firmware over the air and this makes it the first handset from an Indian OEM to get a taste of Lollipop. Customers are most likely going to receive a pure Android experience except for a few preloaded applications from the OEM.

What’s disappointing (for some) is that the company hasn’t included its proprietary Hive UI and we’re yet to see a phone get updated with it. Back to the Android 5.0 update for the One handset, the firmware is 557.72MB in size, so downloading it via cellular data is going to cost you a lot. Additionally, you can also acquire the OS via a PC by visiting the Xolo Care website through this link.

Download and installation instructions are also provided, but there’s no changelog. You can expect to find the usual Lollipop features such as a fresh UI with the Material Design makeover, lockscreen notifications, a better power saver mode and a lot more.

Xolo One specifications recap:

– 4.5-inch FWVGA UPS touchscreen
– 1GB RAM
– 1.3GHz quad core CPU
– 8GB internal storage, 32GB microSD expandable
– 5MP rear camera, VGA front shooter
– 1700mAh battery
– Dual SIM w/ HSPA+

If you’re yet to see the update notification to Android Lollipop on your Xolo One handset, you could try restarting the phone or manually searching for the OS through the ‘About phone’ menu in ‘Settings.’
