BlackBerry Classic QWERTY phone expected in India at Jan 15 press event

The BlackBerry Classic smartphone may be coming to India this January 15, with invites already having made their way to the press. As you know, the Canadian company is going back to its roots with this new handset which features a physical QWERTY keyboard that’s typical of the brand.

The BlackBerry Classic hasn’t gone crazy with the specifications, but they’re decent enough for a business user’s needs, we daresay. Before this, the inordinately large and odd-looking Passport phone was released in the country for Rs 49990 through Amazon India.

There’s no word on how much BlackBerry will price the new smartphone at, but it can’t cost much considering the components that have made their way into it. A small 3.5-inch touchscreen of 720 x 720p resolution makes its way onto the front along with a 2MP webcam.

There’s a dual core Snapdragon processor under the hood and 2GB of RAM. Even though the BlackBerry Classic has only 16GB of internal memory, you can add up to 128GB of extra storage space. An 8MP camera perches itself on the back panel and a 2515mAh battery powers the handset.

BlackBerry Classic specifications at a glance:

– BlackBerry 10.3 OS
– Dual core Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz chip
– 3.5-inch 720 x 720p touchscreen
– 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM
– 128GB microSD card support
– 8MP main camera, 2MP front-facing lens
– 2515mAh battery

The invites deployed by BlackBerry mention ‘witness the unveiling of the new BlackBerry 10,’ the OS on which the Classic runs. It also says ‘serious mobility for serious business.’ It’s not clear whether Amazon will get to call dibs on this one too, but we won’t be surprised if it does.

We’re not going to put any money on how much you can expect to pay for the BlackBerry Classic in India. Wait and watch, that’s the best way to go about it.
