Samsung Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE drops Snapdragon 810 for Exynos

A new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE variant which is yet to be released by the company, has apparently ditched the Snapdragon 810 processor for an Exynos SoC. The word comes from a Japanese website called Rbmen that has revealed this previously unknown detail about the phone.

As is usual at this time of the year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE is expected to be joining the throng of devices heading to the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015. There was much speculation about the handset carrying the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 chip from Qualcomm, with SamMobile having practically confirmed the same less than a month ago.

The S-LTE version of the Galaxy Note 4 is preceded by one embedding a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC and another integrating an Exynos (7 Octa) processor. It will run on the Exynos 5433 processor with the Shannon 333 modem, according to the rumor, though it’s not been said if the last mentioned component comes from chip-maker Intel or not.

As for the 64-bit Snapdragon 810 SoC which has got everyone excited, it’s supposed to contain four Cortex-A53 cores and four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 1.5GHz and 1.9GHz, respectively. It is the first ever 64-bit octa core processor running in ARM’s big.LITTLE configuration. Let’s hope Samsung puts it in its Galaxy S6 flagship at least.

It’s not clear as to why the Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE has dropped the idea of the Snapdragon component in favor of the Exynos one. In terms of specifications, you can look forward to the usual such as a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, a 16MP main camera, 32GB and so on, since it’s mostly just the chipset that’s changing.

You’ll be able to hear more about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 S-LTE when it’s rolled into South Korea by the middle of January.
