OnePlus One now gets its own Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM

With the Delhi High Court ban behind it, the OnePlus One wants to take a fresh start in the New Year by introducing its own Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM, an alpha build of which has just been released. It can be downloaded and flashed by owners of this smartphone at the moment, but be warned that it swarms with bugs since it’s a very early build of the software.

When the OnePlus One was unveiled last year, it prided itself on the fact that it was the first smartphone to come with the Cyanogen OS pre-installed on it. However, the relations between the Chinese manufacturer and the American software maker went sour after the latter signed an exclusivity deal with Micromax, the result of which is the Yu Yureka smartphone.

OnePlus then finally decided that it was time to unveil its own software and not depend upon Cyanogen anymore. The Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM which is available in the form of an alpha build is pretty close to the stock version of Google software.

However, a few differences that it bears from the vanilla software include the option to have onscreen or physical navigation buttons. A final version of this ROM is expected to be released in an OTA fashion in the months to come, so that all owners of the device can finally migrate from Cyanogen 11S to the new ROM to receive frequent software updates.

Here’s a short look at the specs of the OnePlus One:

– Display: 5.5-inch, 1080p
– OS: Android-based Cyanogen 11S
– Processor: 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801
– GPU: Adreno 330
– Memory: 3GB RAM, 64GB storage
– Camera: 13MP rear, 5MP front
– Battery: 3100mAh

The Android 5.0 Lollipop alpha build for the OnePlus One can be downloaded now through the company’s forum site, and detailed instructions on how to install it can also be found there.
