Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 2 has been confirmed

Samsung is no doubt having a hard time selling its Android devices, but it sure known how to keep customers happy and by that we mean offering updates to newer versions of the OS to even old and outdated handsets. The latest development is that the South Korean giant will be bringing Lollipop to its 2013 flagship as well as the Note 2 which went official way back in 2012.

This information doesn’t come from internal sources or the rumor mill, but an official support page on the Samsung Finland website, which was spotted by GSMArena. The company follows a 2-year or 2 major release update policy, so it’s quite surprising to see the Note 2 get the special treatment considering that it was launched in September 2012, making it over 24 months old.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

Well, the phablet was pretty popular back in the day and there’s still quite a large user-base which is probably why the company has opted to bump it to Lollipop. Just to clarify things, both 3G and 4G models are eligible for the update. The Galaxy S4 which is last year’s flagship is also confirmed to get Android 5.0 and the website even highlights that the Alpha, Note 3, Note 4 and S5 mini will be treated to the new release.

We’ve already seen the Galaxy S5 running Lollipop and to be frank, it doesn’t look like Samsung has done much with the TouchWiz UI on the latest OS. However, we could see an overhauled interface with the Galaxy S6. The video below shows the current flagship running the official Android 5.0 release.

While it’s great to hear that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, the company hasn’t officially said so and it could backtrack on the info revealed on its website. Also, there’s no timeline as to when the new OS will be rolled out to the phablet or any of the other aforementioned handsets.
