Global OnePlus One phones set to receive OTA updates in India, says Cyanogen

Cyanogen has finally deigned to speak up regarding the controversy boiling around its partnership with Micromax in India which resulted in everyone believing that the OnePlus One won’t be getting any updates in the country. The software company has disclosed that it will continue to support the global version of the smartphone in question even in India by offering the latest versions of CyanogenMod.

The OnePlus One went official a few days back and is on sale for Rs 21999 via the invite system. Previously, the company disclosed that they would be shipping the handset with the forked Android platform aboard, but no updates would be issued in the country since Micromax had exclusive rights over the OS.

Instead, OnePlus has been developing its own system based on Lollipop and plans to release it next month. Clearly, that won’t be necessary anymore, but it would still be nice to have another firmware to mess around with. The Chinese OEM is yet to respond to the latest developments and disclose any new changes to its plans for India.

As mentioned above, Cyanogen has formed a partnership with Micromax to develop software for its Yu smartphone series which is expected to go official this month itself. The company says it’s committed to supporting users ‘wherever our OS is distributed.’

Here’s a refresher of the OnePlus One’s specs:

– Android 4.4 KitKat (CyanogenMod 11S)
– 3GB RAM, 64GB non-expandable storage
– 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 SOC
– 5.5-inch 1080p FHD display
– 5MP front selfie camera, 13MP rear Sony snapper
– 3100mAh battery

If the lack of CyanogenMod support in India was preventing you from wanting to lay hands on the OnePlus One, it’s not too late to try your luck at getting an invite for the handset.
