Facebook Rooms app for anonymous chatting arrives in India

Back in October this year, a new Facebook Rooms app was released by the social network as the first ever application from its own repertoire which did not ask users to log into their accounts. The app which has just been launched in India now, allows you to chat anonymously on dedicated communities of your choice.

Its approach is said to have been inspired from the early days of the Internet when anonymous discussions were the norm and chat rooms were the places to be at. Facebook Rooms works with iOS only and lets you join such hubs which are created to act as centers for discussion on particular topics.

For instance, if you’re a cyclist, you can join a ‘Cycling Lovers’ room and chat with other members there using any name you want. You will even be able to post photos or videos to these rooms. They are moderated by those who have created them. So lots of factors such as cover photos, pinned messages and available emojis are controlled by them.

Facebook had made this app available only in the US and the UK at launch, but its entry into India hasn’t taken too long. Developed by the Creative Labs team from the social network, it currently has no plans of arriving on any platform other than iOS.

Recently, another standalone app was launched by the company in the form of Facebook Groups which delivers an individual utility dedicated towards helping you manage the activities in your groups. Unlike Rooms however, this offering is available on both Android as well as iOS platforms.

Indian users who are interested in trying out the Facebook Rooms app can head over to the App Store to grab it for their Apple iOS devices.
