Oh dear, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S5 didn’t turn out to be quite as popular as expected considering the 40 percent drop in its projected sales figures. What’s more, the company had a bad report card to show in terms of revenues too, displaying a 74 percent year-on-year fall in profits from its mobile arm in the last fiscal quarter.
After its first three months of release, only 12 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S5 were shipped. On the other hand, its predecessor did marginally better with 16 million being sold within the same time-frame. This is perhaps why the South Korean brand is apparently thinking about replacing J. K. Shin with B. K. Yoon who is in charge of its home appliances and TV business.
The news was reported by The Wall Street Journal, says a post on CNET which also notes that the company’s mobile issues have been well-documented over the past few months. With so much competition from established and emerging rivals, it’s no surprise to see it stumble. It’s already working to defeat Apple and now has to watch its back very carefully owing to Xiaomi.

In spite of the disappointing overall sales all across the globe, the Galaxy S5 supposedly sold better than the S4 in the US. But it took a tough blow in China, with a 50 percent drop in buyers as compared to its predecessor. Samsung’s current move to stem the flow is to reduce the number of devices it vends and focus on its most popular ones; that’s the unofficial word.
