Apple ships 55000 iPhone 6 units to make sure huge demand is met on launch day

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones will go on sale in India starting from tomorrow and to avoid shortages in inventory, Apple is taking proper precaution by bringing what it thinks is a sufficiently large inventory to the country. The number of devices being made available tomorrow is not official, but a report notes that 50000 to 55000 units are being shipped.

The Economic Times notes that the new iPhone 6 inventory is destined to reach stores before Thursday so that they can be ready for the scheduled midnight launch. This initial stock is said to be just enough to keep up with the demand during the weekend.

Fresh units of Apple’s latest smartphones will arrive early next week and the report also notes that the 128GB model and gold color option have been witnessing ‘maximum demand in pre-bookings.’ As you probably know, pre-orders for both phones have already taken off and had surpassed the 21000 mark as of Tuesday.

A previous report highlighted that Apple planned to push the Indian launch back to November. But with pressure from its local partners, the company has been compelled to make both iPhone 6 devices available for the festive season.

The iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus models have been witnessing crazy demand around the globe. Initial sales already crossed the 10 million mark in just over a weekend, out of which 4 million units were sold in less than 24 hours after launch and we’ve been hearing that demand for the handsets is also high in China.

A total of 1200 retail locations in India will have the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on sale. But the handsets aren’t the only big launches for tomorrow as Samsung will be offering its Galaxy Note 4 phablet on these shores as well.
