The makers of the widely popular SwiftKey application for Android have announced the availability of version 5.1 and have disclosed that it will introduce support for 11 new officially recognized Indian languages. That’s surely a huge treat for fans; but it isn’t the only one as the company has also revealed a new theme to celebrate Diwali which is known as the festival of lights.
Now before you get too excited about the latest SwiftKey update for Android, we’d like to point out that the new features in version 5.1 arrive in beta form. There’s a small procedure which involves joining the beta community on Android Google Group in order to get access to the pre-release application on Google Play.
The SwiftKey Diwali theme however, is accessible to everyone from the in-app store. There are a total of thirteen new native languages to accompany Hindi and Hinglish, including Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Urdu, Telugu, Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Oriya, Punjabi, Nepali and Sinhala.

The last two are obviously not from India, but SwiftKey notes that they’re part of the same Indo-Aryan language family. There are various other improvements a well, with the new update. The developer highlights that the app’s Backup & Sync services will be more secure since the SSL certificate handling has been changed. Also, the process for fresh installs will be much faster with the popup EULA being replaced with links.
