Mozilla continues its ambitious move to flood the Indian market with cheap Firefox OS phones, with the Alcatel Fire C 2G being its latest launch partnership. The Alcatel smartphone is tagged at Rs 1990 and you can bet your bottom dollar that someone’s going to come along to try and beat the price with Android instead.
Wait, we already have the Jivi JSP 20 which is currently boasting about being the cheapest Android smartphone in India thanks to its cost of Rs 1999. Close enough, although we must admit that Jivi is a relatively unknown company as compared to Alcatel and may have not even caught our eye if it hadn’t been for the throwaway price of its JSP 20.
The Alcatel Fire C 2G smartphone stands true to its name and does not offer anything higher than 2G network support. This makes it awkward just like all the other inexpensive Firefox OS phones we’ve seen so far because Mozilla’s mobile OS is based on the HTML web standard and 2G Internet speed in India is pathetic enough as it stands.

Flipkart has bagged exclusive rights to the Fire C smartphone, just like Snapdeal did with the Intex Cloud FX and Spice Fire One – Mi FX1. The Alcatel handset is barely different from its two rivals in terms of features. But you might want to go for the Spice handset in case you insist on a front-facing camera.
