Study says texting with Google Glass while driving is dangerous

If findings from a most recent study related to Google Glass are to be taken under consideration, then sending texts with the special goggles on could be a threat to safety while you’re behind the wheel. Texting through the device has been found to be a clear distraction on the road, as any idiot will tell you about multitasking, and owners have been asked not to do it while they’re driving their vehicles.

A research conducted by the University of Central Florida on this matter has found that Google Glass has an overall negative impact when worn while driving. But that’s not always the case as in selective instances, it has been found to have a somewhat positive impact as well.

For example, drivers texting with the Google Glasses managed to recover in an emergency situation more quickly than those who were doing the same on a smartphone. Despite Google Glass providing its users with a number of different ways to control it – head movements, voice commands and more – texting with the device on still creates a distraction while driving.

This optical head-mounted display from Google has been hit with criticisms as much as it has been showered with praises. Concerns related to privacy mar its all-round acceptance since wearers can easily pass it off as a pair of spectacles.

The way it works actually is that it projects an interface in front of your eyes, which you can control using voice commands, head movements or its touch pad. Google Glass has also been equipped with an HD camera to help you click pictures and shoot videos of exactly what you’re seeing in front of you.
