The sad demise of the Nokia branding will soon be witnessed as Microsoft launches its next smartphone after the recently unveiled Lumia 830 and Lumia 730 Windows Phone offering. Said Lumia devices will apparently be the last to carry the Nokia moniker on them.
What’s more, Microsoft is reportedly getting ready to cut loose the whole Windows Phone name in favor of just Windows. This means there won’t be a Windows Phone 9 release in the future and the identity of the mobile OS will be merged with that of the desktop one.
Geek on Gadgets supposedly got their hands on a confidential internal document revealing the aforementioned information. The change to Windows Phone has already started rolling out, with the recently unveiled HTC One M8 for Windows running on v8.1.1 of Microsoft’s mobile OS as opposed to Android.

And official Nokia websites have begun redirecting users to Microsoft ones. As we’ve noted above, the Lumia 730 and Lumia 830 are reportedly the last devices in the series to stick with the Nokia brand name. In the future, this Windows Phone lineup of smartphones and tablets will only go with ‘Lumia’ and ‘Microsoft.’
The Nokia Lumia 830 and Lumia 730 by Microsoft are 5-inch and 4.7-inch handsets with 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 processors, Windows Phone 8.1, dual SIM card slots, 1GB RAM and up to 128GB expandable storage. Both phones are scheduled to hit availability status across the globe sometime this month.
There are no details on what the first Microsoft Lumia smartphone without the Nokia branding will look like, nor do we know anything about its likely unveiling date as of now.
