Flipkart cancelling Xiaomi Mi 3 orders, leaving hopeful buyers high and dry

It looks like the publicity stunts Flipkart and Xiaomi are pulling for the Mi 3 in India may soon backfire on them if they’re not careful seeing as customers have been complaining a lot about the retailer canceling orders automatically. Leaving fans high and dry is never a good way to go about earning more hype for your product, Xiaomi.

Ever since the Xiaomi Mi 3 made its debut in India, we’ve been seeing the Chinese company as well as the online retailer boast about the entire stock of devices being sold out within seconds at each sale. But the very first batch took almost 39 minutes to disappear from Flipkart. So are you telling us that the first group of people who laid hands on the phone proclaimed their love for it so forcefully and audibly, they managed to turn hopeful buyers into a pack of rabid, pining enthusiasts after this?

Xiaomi Mi 3

That doesn’t seem to be the case at all and it appears as if the only thing making the Xiaomi Mi 3 handset seem like the smartphone to die is the ratio of available units to potential customers. More than 100000 people were claimed to have registered to purchase the device when it first went up for sale. And yet, it took about 39 minutes for 10000 or less pieces to be snapped up. If you’re going to offer a small number of units at a time, it’s very likely that along with prospective buyers and a slowly growing fan base, there will always be more people demanding for the handset.

Xiaomi Mi 3 Complaints

Now several people are complaining about Flipkart cancelling previously confirmed orders of the phone without proper warning. The above Facebook post was just one of several we found splattered across the web and MouthShut even has a rant by an angry customer. Although a policy of one Xiaomi Mi 3 smartphone per person is in place, it’s supposed to cover each sale and not all of them. If the cancellations are due to technical errors, then the said retailer should get it fixed before bringing down the repute of the device manufacturer, don’t you think?
