Fitness tracker device GOQii receives angel funding from WhatsApp and Amazon executives

GOQii looks all set to give rival fitness trackers a run for their money, with the venture clearly having won the admiration of Amazon and WhatsApp executives. Introduced by Indian entrepreneur Vishal Gondal, the wearable device was launched in India only in April of this year but appears to be unavailable for purchase presently.

Snapdeal bagged an exclusive over the GOQii and shows an average 3.8/5 rating by four people and only one buyer’s review for it on the official product page. In case you’re wondering, the fitness tracker received a rating of 1/5 from the unfortunate customer in question who has complained about poor software, bad battery life and marks left by the wristband on the skin.

For that matter, why are Seagate’s Steve Luczo, Microsoft’s Taher Khorakiwala and Vijay Vashee, Google’s Amit Singhal and Flextronics’ Mike McNamara amongst other big names backing the wearable?

Vishal Gondal’s IndiaGames was snapped up by Walt Disney Company in what was touted as one of the biggest deals in India’s online gaming segment in 2011 and he is also a well known angel investor; meaning he knows what he’s doing. The wearable space is still in its nascent stage even at the global level. A time will come when the device category into which the GOQii falls, rocks the industry soon enough.

And India which happens to be the world’s second largest mobile phone market currently, will surely cultivate an appetite for gadgets like the GOQii in the future. The fitness tracker has some good ideas going for it such as a human fitness coach to nag you and Karma points. So Arora and Argenti probably want to be around when the wave hits the shore.
