Panasonic Eluga U has some decent specs, but it’s not better than Xiaomi Mi 3

The newly launched Panasonic Eluga U which is priced at Rs 18990 faces some touch competition from the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 3. The phone carries the same price as the Panasonic P81 and it also offers similar features, but what it really lacks is brand value to back its price.

A local retailer had jumped the gun and published details about the Eluga U on Facebook as well as Twitter before it was launched. Apart from this, an eBay seller had put the device up for grabs at Rs 17490 and had also disclosed a lot of information about the handset without waiting for an official announcement to be released. It’s a good thing the features weren’t much of a secret in the first place as a benchmark listing did the needful by leaking most of the specs.

If you were expecting the smartphone to be a high-end one, then you’re in for a little disappointment. The Panasonic Eluga U is a mid-range release with a 5-inch display that doesn’t do full HD and it has Android 4.4 KitKat onboard. Like most devices in the market, it also comes with a quad core processor, but a Snapdragon 400 one instead of a MediaTek chip.

The phone doesn’t stick to the current trend and embed dual SIM slots, but it does deliver HSPA+ network support and a bunch of other connectivity options. On the bright side, the device sports a neat design which shows the rear panel flaunting a mirror-printed texture with glass inlay, while Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects the front from damage.

Panasonic Eluga U key specs list:

– Android 4.4 KitKat OS
– 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 SOC
– 2GB RAM, 16GB storage
– 13MP main camera, 2MP front snapper
– 5-inch 720p HD touchscreen
– 2500mAh battery

Now that all those specifications we’ve mentioned above and compare them to those of the Mi 3 which costs just Rs 13999. The Panasonic Eluga U will be available in color choices of white and black when it hits the Indian market in the first week of August.
