Apple two-step verification launched in India and 47 other countries

Apple has a two-step verification process to keep your account safe from hackers and it’s now rolling out to India as well as 47 other countries. In early 2013, the company announced the security measure for customers in the US, the UK, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, and then added Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Italy and Spain to the list.

It’s only now that the same feature is making its way to the majority of countries in which the iPhone maker has a presence. Mind you, 9to5Mac does point out that some of the nations included in the roster of countries which are getting Apple two-step verification, already seemed to have welcomed it unofficially almost a year ago.

Apple ID

The Apple two-step verification process we’re talking about is triggered when you sign into your Apple ID to manage the account or access support for it and also when you attempt to purchase App Store, iTunes or iBooks Store content from a new device. It can be activated by signing in to your account, clicking on Password and Security, then Trusted Devices and finally, Manage.

At this point, you will be asked to provide your mobile number so that whenever you log in to your Apple ID to carry out any of the aforesaid activities, it will also ask you for the temporary code which has been sent via text to your registered iOS device. This can also be done through the Find my iPhone application as mentioned on the official support page.

Apple Two Step Verification

The total number of countries including India which now have Apple two-step verification, amounts to 59. The company also appears to be testing a way to enable the additional security cover for iCloud.com so that users can keep their calendars, contacts and mails safe from hackers.
