Facebook decides to revamp its Events segment with new tailored suggestions

As strange as it may sound, Facebook wants you to attend gatherings which you are not invited to as part of a set of new features that will soon be added to its Events section. ‘Events For You’ is a category which will be populated by suggestions based on information about you which the site grabs based on your browsing habits on it.

This new Facebook Events redesign is under testing currently for the web version of the social network, and there are even plans to export it into its mobile application. It will slowly be rolled out all over the world, and some users in the US have already started noticing the change in their profiles.

With this design, the main Facebook Events feed will sport a cleaner and constricted look. Moreover, it will also be seen receiving a tabbed interface for helping you distinguish between all your events, those you’ve been invited to, those you’ve saved but not RSVP’d to and those you yourself are hosting. And there will also be a shortcut for entering a list of past events.

The right side bar however, will be the main attraction of the Facebook Events redesign, as that’s where the new ‘Events For You’ section will be occupying space. TechCrunch has been told by an FB spokesperson that these recommended events are based on information which a users shares on the site and other contextual details like day of the week and location.

There’s no doubt that Facebook would be looking at this new section with a monetization point of view, as there’s a very simple potential model of ‘pay to get your events promoted’ which the social network can exploit.
