Google Voice Search revamped now works well with Indian accents

It’s a fact that Google Voice Search doesn’t really work well with the Indian accent, but that’s going to change with the new improvements announced by the Mountain View giant. At an event held in Delhi, Google disclosed that it has augmented its voice search with support for Indian accents and dialects and it even demonstrated the new capabilities.

What’s more, Google Voice Search is capable of recognizing phases in Hindi and accurately translating them into English which will remain to be the main supported language. Even words spoken with a heavy accent can be interpreted. To make these improvements, the giant collaborate with more than 700 volunteers, notes Times of India. These participants were made to dictate the most popular search keywords.

This was done in different environments like restaurants, busy streets, inside a car and so on. However, be sure you have English (India) set as the default language if you want the improvements in voice search to be active. The selection can be made through the app’s Voice settings. These new enhancements will surely give Google the upper hand over Apple’s Siri which still has a tough time with understanding Indian accents. Microsoft’s Cortana on the other hand, is yet to be officially made available in the country, but can be enabled through a small tweak.

The new Google Voice Search improvements are already available for all Android users in India with version 2.3 or above. Those with Jelly Bean will also be able to make use of Google Now which supports Hinglish as well. Even iOS devices will benefit from the new improvements through the dedicated app.
