While most companies are launching smartwatches as separate gadgets for remotely operating phones, here’s a startup that has designed an accessory called Smartlet which transforms your iPhone itself into a wearable device. Currently, the developers of the gadget are seeking support from people and tech enthusiasts through the crowdfunding website, Kickstarter.
So what this Smartler bracelet actually does? Well, it has a unidirectional locking mechanism to keep the iPhone in place on the band that you are supposed to wear on your wrist. Thus, the iPhone itself becomes your smartwatch. And the locking system that we mentioned lets you remove the device from the bracelet in one easy motion.
Now that even the iPhone comes drenched in multiple different shades, surely interested customers would want to hook their smartphones to a band that matches their mobile companions. So users will have the option of choosing from various colors as well as types of bands. This accessory boasts of minimalist designs and can be adjusted over or under the sleeve easily as it holds the handset by its buttons.
And apart from letting you wear the iPhone on your sleeve (or under it if you prefer), the Smartlet even makes it easy for you to operate it as the band completely eliminates the need to dig the phone from your pocket or from under the bag. You can control your music, read messages as well as respond to them, use Siri and even take a look at your notifications.
As of now the Smartlet bracelet for iPhone has not entered mass production, but it will if it manages to reach its goal of $30,000 in the next 17 days at Kickstarter. So far, 107 backers have pledged $3,475 for the accessory.
