1000-key emoji keyboard maker calls it the most ridiculous thing he’s ever made

If you haven’t heard of Tom Scott, he’s the person who built a 1000-key emoji keyboard just for kicks, or it’s probably a social comment on the way we interact with each other online these days. The British comedian, programmer, and former presenter of the show Gadget Geeks, claims it has most of the emoticons we use today.

The 1000 buttons on the emoji keyboard sport the usual stuff like smileys and symbols for animals, plants, food items, transport and time among others. It also has keys for the flags of all the nations across the globe, a method to type in a black Santa Claus, a levitating man in a suit, an over 18 warning and so on.

It features everything from Unicode 8. The device has been made by syncing together 14 keyboards via special software. It’s clear that Scott does not intend for his invention to be taken seriously, and he hasn’t put it up for sale. But he does promise to follow up the YouTube video posted below with a more detailed one on how the emoji keyboard was built.

Incidentally, the list of emojis that can be typed out on Scott’s keyboard even includes those that will arrive along with the Apple iOS 9.1 update. Talk about having a colorful reaction for everything your friends or colleagues are discussing with you online. Let’s hope they don’t mind waiting for you to express your emotion through one of these smileys or symbols.

Because having 1000 keys to choose from means it’s going to take loads of time to find the emoji you need. It’s a good thing they’re sorted into various categories to speed up the process of picking the right one.
