Idea’s new Rs 109 plan offers unlimited calls, 1GB data

Idea Cellular has launched a brand new prepaid plan in its efforts to combat the rise of Reliance Jio and stay competitive against Airtel. Its new Rs 109 pack offers unlimited calling for 14 days, alongside 1GB of 3G or 4G data and 100 SMSes.

The calling covers local, roaming, and STD calls, but isn’t actually unlimited. Idea’s fine print states that it’s restricted to 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week. If a subscriber manages to cross these limits, they’ll have to pay 1 paisa per second.

Idea has made its new Rs 109 plan available in a couple of circles such as Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar and Jharkhand, and Haryana. Customers can subscribe to it through the company’s app or website.

Idea also has another low-cost Rs 93 pack which gives away the same ‘unlimited’ voice calls and 1GB of data for a total of 10 days. On the other hand, its main rival Airtel has a Rs 93 recharge which gives away the same benefits for 28 days. Even Reliance Jio has a Rs 98 scheme which serves up unlimited calling and 2GB of data for 28 days.

Idea’s Rs 109 plan doesn’t quite match up to either of those plans in terms of validity. The brand has been busy revamping its existing postpaid packs to catch up with its competitors. Its Nirvana plans now offer more data at the same price as before.
