BlackBerry Priv Android phone now up for pre-order at $699

Having hit pre-order status for $699 in the US, the BlackBerry Priv Android phone has put to rest the suspicion that it will cost way above Rs 50000 in India. With taxes and duties, it might carry a price that’s closer to Rs 48000 in the country. There’s no way to tell the exact tag for sure at present since BlackBerry hasn’t put the smartphone up for advance booking on these shores as yet.

But BlackBerry Priv fans in various parts of the world may have been caught in a flurry of disappointment last week when Carphone Warehouse kicked off pre-orders for it in the UK at £579. That would have translated to roughly Rs 58000 or $887. Thankfully, it’s only $699 or about Rs 45500 and has a decent set of features to match the asking rate.

BlackBerry Priv

A lot of excitement surrounds the BlackBerry Priv mainly because it’s the first smartphone from the company to work on Android, which means a ton of apps from Google Play Store will be easily accessible to users. It will even have the signature slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Being of the capacitive type, the keypad will also function as a touchpad. Another facet synonymous with the brand is the user privacy and security it provides, and buyers can expect that from the new device too.
