Airtel’s new Holiday Surprise offer gives away 30GB of free data

In a move reminiscent of Reliance Jio’s tactics, Airtel has introduced a new Holiday Surprise scheme that is a repeat of its previous Surprise Offer. The latter was launched last month as a celebration for the brand being named India’s fastest mobile network by Ookla.

No such reason has been given for the new Holiday Surprise offer. The promotion again gives away 30GB of data to postpaid subscribers over the course of 3 months. 10GB is allocated per month. Consumers will have to log into the My Airtel app to give the deal a go. The last date to sign up for the scheme is April 30.

People who have already taken up March’s Surprise Offer can also get in on the Holiday Surprise offer, but will only get one free extra month added to their billing cycle. To recall, the prior scheme also gave away 30GB of data scattered across a 3-month period. The introduction of the Holiday Surprise promotion now means users will get 10GB of data for another month at no additional cost.

Airtel

Airtel has separately announced a new plan for people looking to travel abroad. The brand’s CEO Gopal Vittal said that the company has taken major steps to make sure they’re protected from bill shocks which occur when costs escalate overseas. The company’s apparently negotiated with global operators to get them the best international roaming rates.

The basic logic underlying the plan is that a person need not activate any specific pack before departing for their destination. Instead, it’ll automatically be activated for them once their usage exceeds Rs 499. If they don’t go above this limit, they’ll be charged on the applicable rates.

For example, if an Airtel customer holidaying in Singapore goes beyond Rs 499, then the telecom operator’s Rs 499 Singapore pack will automatically kick in without any added cost.
