AT&T to ship LG Thrive and LG Phoenix from April 17

Having to sign cell phone contracts just for purchasing a much desired handset at a significantly lower price may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Considering this, AT&T will begin shipping its prepaid LG Thrive smartphone as well as its post-paid variant, the LG Phoenix, starting from April 17.

The LG Thrive is claimed to be AT&T’s first prepaid handset available on its GoPhone prepaid service. The smartphone can be opted for coupled with several data and voice packages. Customers may select from either a $0.10 per minute or a $2 per day Unlimited Talk and Text plan. The various data plans proffered by AT&T include $25 for 500MB, $15 for 100MB or $5 for 10MB of usage.

“We are excited to add LG Thrive, the first smartphone for GoPhone, to AT&T’s growing Android portfolio,” expressed Judy Cavalieri, vice president, Voice and Prepaid Products, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Thrive brings more choice and more value to our GoPhone customers by delivering the benefits of a smartphone, balanced with functionality and affordability.”

“The range of smartphones available at LG and AT&T is a tribute to our consumers,” expressed Tim O’Brien, vice president for marketing for LG Mobile Phones. “LG Thrive optimizes data capabilities and value with a fully customizable experience. We look to continue our history of AT&T firsts.”

Each handset is powered by Google’s Android 2.2 OS and runs on a 600MHz processor. The device exhibits 3.2” 320 x 480p resolution full touchscreen display and a 3.2MP AF camera. It also includes features such as aGPS support, Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth and 3G network connectivity. The handset will retail with 160MB of internal memory and a 2GB microSD card.

Beginning April 17, the LG Thrive dipped in a silver hue can be snapped up by shelling out $179.99. The dark blue LG Phoenix is slated for launch on the same day with a price tag of $49.99 and entails a two year agreement.
